And you've a friend with a wine addiction; truly, you are French in all aspects! I have a friend, I must say, who would be pale for the first time in his life with jealousy over this meeting. And not because of the crystal.

Brother who is the god of wine and is just as fond of this country as I am, though admittedly for different reasons.

[He pauses, looking like a statue for a few moments, before nodding and laughing a bit. He was looking to see who that friend was]

Our red wines are nearly as good as our boys. They rank third on the list, though slightly higher than our cheeses.

[He takes this list seriously.

Joly then grinned, and nudged him good-naturedly.]

You're rather nosy. But it saves me the trouble of describing him, now doesn't it? Very much so. I think I shalln't tell him, really. Out of kindness.

[He might tell Bossuet though. ...But Bossuet might genuinely worry for his health if he did.]

Oh, please don't. I may end up meeting him myself, and...I will admit that the reactions of Romantics and daydreamers are some of my favorites. I've had three grown men swoon, as if they were a particularly weak woman or a child!

I'm sure you'll find no lack of swooning to amuse yourself with there, just promise me you catch the swooners? While I can do much more for a broken nose than a broken heart, I prefer not to let any of my dear friends become intimate with the floor in that brutal manner.

Oh, I catch them. Broken noses and blackened eyes are not terribly attractive on most men and women simply can't get up on their own, with their corsets and large skirts.

A very kind God! And very merry, I see. I might say I greatly prefer you to the one preached in the churches.

You know, my Mademoiselle dresses very well, very properly, and I daresay she could jump up from off the floor. My Monsieur barely wears a stitch of good cloth on him, all very loose, and I daresay he'd simply fall over again if he tried. I know some backwards people.

You are also a medical student who fears illness and death. Most of that sort would avoid practicing medicine, you know.

Well, I didn't know it was exactly so fearful until I'd gotten started.

[A pause, wetting his lips, and then with sudden seriousness--]

And better to keep learning it then, as I wouldn't allow for any of my backwards people to grow ill or injured without help... That just won't be the case.

[He smiles a bit. Apollo is terribly loyal and protective of his family. Joly's comment simply makes him like the young man even more]

Then I suggest you advise your monsieur to abstain from oysters and the mademoiselle should take care to avoid bees.

[He looked down and smiled almost modestly for a moment, all fondness. He was not shy about just how fond he was, of either his dear pair, or any of his friends.]

That will be difficult; he does like oysters. I would eat them all for him, but he'd certainly call me names then and not see it our way. The Mademoiselle is not as fond of bees as he is of oysters, so that will be less troublesome.

Do you have yourself a forever-someone then, Monsieur?

[Apollo loses a bit of that light he's had. He's still glowing, since god of light and all, but it's decidedly...less]

It...no, sadly. I do not. I am not allowed to marry the Muses, much as I would like to, and other than them I rarely have such luck.

You know, it is not such a pity yet.

[He assured, losing none of his own shine, brows raising a bit.]

We have limited time and, naturally, find ours quickly. I am very greedy and well-to-do, with having two. But as you have quite a bit more time than I, it simply takes longer. But, not to worry, not nearly! You will find he, or she, or them; that you will.

It would help, I suppose, if the hero types were not always so attractive. Heroes almost always die far too young, yet....well, look at your leader fellow.

They are, at that! Very magnetic, and the like.

He's rather not the type to be interested in the functions of the body; he is more statue than man, really; but I shall introduce you, if you fancy it. Enjolras is quite vital and healthy; I cannot imagine hs dying at all, ever.

[And Joly thinks he might possibly be immortal. Or, at least the most immortal man he has known until today.

Oh, no. Gods, no. He is spoken for and, frankly, not my sort of man. But he is a hero of sorts and you cannot tell me you can imagine him dying of old age.

It is possible. I see outcomes, not certainties, when it comes to your kind. Humans are unpredictable and I cannot track every human's path. That is left to the Fates. I simply see what might and will be.

Why, your drunk friend. I thought that was obvious--I do not even need to look beyond a few days from now to see that. I am no Eros, so I cannot say how reciprocated it is, but I could never attempt to seduce someone who has such a desperate, devoted follower.

Ahah! Grand R is something of a shade of deeply devoted.

[A pause, puzzling it, before he shook his head.]

But no. Alas! I disagree. He enjoys Enjolras because he is unattainable; should Enjolras stoop-- and this is his opinion, not mine, I am very fond of Grantaire, very fond-- stoop to the level of accepting him, Grantaire would not think it Enjolras anymore, and would be more dejected than he already is. Love is suffering, sometimes! I would rather not have to suffer; perhaps you ought to charm him, instead?
